Elieze Termote has a Master’s degree in Criminological Sciences and Gender & Diversity. During her years of study, she specialized herself in the Belgian prison system and the positions (power & oppression) individuals have in society. Her interest in the Belgian prison system grew into a passion for the international prison system. By doing an internship at ‘RESHAPE’ in Portugal, visiting a Portuguese prison, ‘Wayback Norway’ and different prisons in Norway, she got a clear idea about the practice that needs to be implemented in order to achieve human and effective imprisonment in Europe. By being a member of Vzw De Huizen and RESCALED, she supports detention houses instead of large prison institutions. She is currently doing research on the two new prisons in Belgium: Dendermonde-New and Haren (Brussels) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. |
