Elieze Termote has a Master’s degree in Criminological Sciences and Gender & Diversity. During her years of study, she specialized herself in the Belgian prison system and the positions (power & oppression) individuals have in society.

Her interest in the Belgian prison system grew into a passion for the international prison system. By doing an internship at ‘RESHAPE’ in Portugal, visiting a Portuguese prison, ‘Wayback Norway’ and different prisons in Norway, she got a clear idea about the practice that needs to be implemented in order to achieve human and effective imprisonment in Europe. By being a member of Vzw De Huizen and RESCALED, she supports detention houses instead of large prison institutions.

She is currently doing research on the two new prisons in Belgium: Dendermonde-New and Haren (Brussels) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The RESCALED Research Community is an initiative of RESCALED, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and KRUS (University College of Norwegian Correctional Service) with the aim to contribute to and share excellent interdisciplinary and comparative research on small-scale, differentiated and community-integrated forms of incarceration.
